"When I decided to take the intracellular magnesium test, not the serum Mg, which is a false and misleading indicator, but the intracellular one, the result stopped me in my tracks. 1.4 mmol/L compared to the normal reference of 1.7–2.5 mmol/L. Who is MAGNESS for

Magness is suitable for anyone living the modern pace of life, but there are certain situations where magnesium deficiency becomes not just frequent, but almost inevitable.

Chronic stress is one of the main factors. High cortisol levels cause accelerated magnesium loss, and as stress persists, reserves are depleted, and the nervous system becomes increasingly difficult to balance.

  • Women have increased needs at several stages of life. Hormonal fluctuations during the menstrual cycle, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), pregnancy, breastfeeding, and menopause contribute to constant and significant magnesium consumption.
  • Active individuals and athletes lose magnesium through sweat, averaging between 6 and 8 mg per liter. Even with a balanced diet, studies show that up to half of athletes have suboptimal levels.
  • In individuals with insomnia or anxiety, a vicious cycle often occurs: lack of magnesium keeps the brain in a state of hyperactivity, which affects sleep and amplifies tension. In turn, insufficient sleep leads to further depletion of reserves.
  • Certain medications can directly influence magnesium levels. Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors or diuretics is associated with its decrease, which is why extra attention is needed.
  • Also, in individuals with insulin resistance or diabetes, there is a direct link between metabolic imbalance and low magnesium levels. Studies show that a significant percentage of people with type 2 diabetes have a deficiency, and certain treatments can exacerbate this situation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The first signs often appear within the first 3-7 days and generally relate to sleep (easier to fall asleep, fewer awakenings) and muscle cramps (reduced frequency or disappearance). More profound effects, such as stable energy, a balanced psychological state, and optimal muscle function, appear after 4–8 weeks of consistent supplementation. Complete cellular status rebalances within 90–120 days.

Different forms of magnesium have different absorption pathways and tissue affinities. Malate supports mitochondria and energy production, bisglycinate acts on the nervous system and sleep, and taurate guides magnesium to the heart and brain. Together, they cover a spectrum of needs that no single form can cover.

Standard analysis (serum Mg) reflects less than 1% of total magnesium and has very low sensitivity. The relevant test is erythrocyte (intracellular) Mg, available at private laboratories. In the absence of tests, the presence of 3 or more symptoms: cramps, insomnia, anxiety, fatigue, headache, in the context of a modern lifestyle, justifies a therapeutic trial.

Magnesium is recommended during pregnancy, with the daily requirement increasing to 360 mg/day according to EFSA. However, the dosage and timing of initiation should be discussed with your doctor. We do not recommend self-initiating supplementation during pregnancy without prior medical consultation.

Magnesium does not act as an immediate-effect medication. It works by progressively rebalancing an essential mineral. Cellular status gradually improves, with the first noticeable effects typically appearing within 2–4 weeks, and complete rebalancing occurring at 90 days. Consistency is more important than dosage.
